About Graz

Graz is the second-largest city of Austria with 310 000 residents and is the venue of the 2017 PLANCKS competition. It has a long tradition as a university town with its six universities containing about 44 000 students.

Graz has also been a part of the World Cultural Heritage Sites since 1999 and was Cultural Capital of Europe 2003. Its name most likely originates from the Slavic word “gradec” which means small castle.

Johannes Kepler, Ludwig Boltzmann and Erwin Schrödinger are just some physicists that are connected to this city.
